Week 24

Week 24
Yay!! This is a big week! This is the first week of viability for the baby! A baby born after 24 weeks has a much higher chance of survival! Also, 24 weeks is the first week in which a hospital will use intensive medical care for a baby born early. Each week after 24 weeks ensures an even healthier baby. We could not be more thrilled to be blessed with a healthy pregnancy thus far!

Fruit/Veggie/Item
an ear of corn

Size
Our baby girl is now a little over a pound and she is almost a foot long.

Baby Changes (Source: www.babycenter.com)
Your baby's growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts her at just over a pound. Since she's almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), she cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but her body is filling out proportionally and she'll soon start to plump up. Her brain is also growing quickly now, and her taste buds are continuing to develop. Her lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help her air sacs inflate once she hits the outside world. Her skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.

Best Moment this Week
With the help of Casey's parents we put the chair rail up in the nursery! It looks so good and I am so proud of our work! I love the paint colors and the chair rail is a nice touch. Can't wait to see what the furniture looks like inside!!
