Baby #2: Week 18

Week 18

Size: 5 1/2 inches long and weighs about 7 ounces!

Baby Changes: He's busy flexing his arms and legs. His blood vessels are visible through his thin skin, and his ears are now in their final position, although their still standing out from his head a bit. A protective covering of myelin is beginning to form around his nerves, a process that will continue for a year after he is born. His genitals are noticeable now (obviously, since we saw last week that he is a boy!!) ;)

Best Moment This Week: I have several favorite baby moments this week…first off, my grandparents came to visit Sawyer and brought our very first boy outfits! They are super cute :) Also, I sold some of the old furniture from the spare bedroom and bought an old dresser, old glider/ottoman, and old lamp to redo and put in the nursery! After all my buying and selling I still made money to profit. I'm proud of myself. ;) All we need to buy now is the crib and the tools for redoing the "old stuff" that I bought! :) Thirdly, I went to my friend Rachel's baby shower this week and she is also having a boy so it was fun to see her open boy presents! And good to see her and catch up with others at the shower, too! :)

Gender: BOY!!

Movement: I feel him several times a day and Casey has felt him a couple more times as well!

Food Craving: Hmm…the other night I randomly craved a hot dog while in bed and Casey got up and made me one (sweet husband:)

What I am looking forward to: Getting the nursery painted!!

Pregnant Belly: I definitely look pregnant now and people are noticing. Haha.

Symptoms: I've been sick with allergies and a cold this week that's probably got nothing to do with pregnancy, but I haven't taken anything because I just don't like taking medicine while I'm pregnant and it never got super awful. Also, I've been really really tired and have had just a little bit of acid reflux some nights when I lay down. I hate that part.

Baby #2: Week 17

Week 17

Size: baby is 5 ounces and 5 inches long!

Baby Changes: His skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord — his lifeline to the placenta — is growing stronger and thicker. He can move his joints, and his sweat glands are starting to develop.

Best Moment this Week: Duh!! Getting our 2nd sonogram and finding out the gender! I loved our "balloon reveal" - it was so fun! :) Baby was moving all around for us to see during the sonogram and everything looks normal! Still praying for a healthy baby. :)

Gender: BOY!!! I still can't believe it! I keep telling Casey I don't know what to do with a boy and he told me "do the same thing you do with Sawyer, just don't put a bow on his head!" Haha!

Movement: I feel him moving all the time now. For sure every time I lay down but a lot when I'm just sitting, too. I don't think I've felt him yet when I'm up or walking around, but I know that's coming. Haha. I am curious to see if he'll set up shop in one particular place like Sawyer always did. She kept her feet on my left side for the last 3 months and I got lots of soreness there. ;)

Food Craving: Unfortunately I crave Dr Pepper a lot. Ugh.  I really wish I just didn't like it…but it's just so darn good! ;) Last night I was just craving a good home cooked meal, but I was so tired and Casey was at church so my mom made me dinner! :) Thanks, mom!
Sleep: been sleeping hard!

What I am looking forward to: redoing the nursery! registering! picking out boy clothes! everything! haha! :)

Pregnant Belly: I finally gained some weight! I was up 3 lbs since my last appointment on June 12th so now I'm at 120lbs. Goal weight for this pregnancy is under 148 (that's what I weighed when I had Sawyer). We'll see if I can make that happen! I know it will be harder with all the holiday food this go around. ;)

Symptoms: somehow I left this off of the last few posts! My only symptom this week is a sore back!!! And I think I've somehow reinsured my tailbone. Not sure what's going on with that, but it sure does hurt!!! I broke it in 11th grade, but haven't had much trouble with it since…now I'm having trouble sitting on the floor and driving. Ouch!

Sawyer's 15 Month Checkup!

Sawyer had her 15 month checkup and it went well (except for the 3 shots that she had to get!). Everyone knows my girl is tiny. She weighed 19 lbs 8 oz which is the 10th percentile. That's actually up from her 12 month appointment, though, where she was in the 4th percentile at 17 lbs 6 oz. She measured 30 1/2 inches long which is 50th percentile (at her 12 month she was 29 inches long which was also 50th percentile). To give some perspective, Sawyer was 6th percentile for weight when she was born and 65th percentile for height. So maybe her height and weight are going to start evening out a little. Who knows.

Sawyer still has 12 teeth and is getting a little better at eating. She has started trying new things and is in enjoying chicken more and more :) Today she ate several chicken nuggets at Chick-fil-A. :)

Little Miss Thang has started the "fit throwing stage." We have had to have some serious talks, and I normally win, but sometimes she takes it out of me. Haha. I am working on perfecting the best method to nip these tantrums in the bud. I'm also working on just being consistent. I noticed that I was being more consistent when I wasn't as tired. It's definitely harder when you're pregnant, so I'm working on that. :)

Sawyer has also begun crying a little when I leave her places (grandparents, nursery, etc.). She never did this before so I think she's just beginning the attachment phase. Also, Casey has gone out of town 3 weeks this summer and I noticed that each time he was gone it got significantly worse…especially this last time. Whew, it was a tiring week. She was even clingy with me at home and one day we didn't even leave the house it was so bad! Not to mention she was sick. I felt bad for her, but I also felt bad for me! Haha. Unfortunately (for Sawyer) we are leaving her for one week (more like 5 nights) in August for a little vacation so hopefully it's not too rough on her. It makes me a little sad, but I know she's okay of course. I'm not nearly as bad as other moms who just decide not to leave them ever because it breaks their heart to see them cry when you walk off. I know it's good for her to be apart for me for a little bit each week.

Sawyer is still friendly and waves at everyone she sees. Still cracks me up! The other day we let her walk from our table at a restaurant to the door when we were leaving and she stopped at all the booths to wave to the people. :) Most people think it's cute and wave back, but you get the occasional person who ignores her and she just keeps waving until they look up. Haha.

We pray with Sawyer each night right before bed and she is so curious as to why we have our eyes closed (we squint and peak and see her looking so confused). Lately she's started saying "ba ba" in the same inflection that we say "amen" in and it is so funny. She starts saying it over and over as soon as we close our eyes now and I almost always start laughing during the prayer. It is just so cute. I am looking forward to when the word actually sounds like amen. Haha.

Sawyer loves her doggy Lucy, swinging the backyard, picking tomatoes from the garden, playing with her toys in the living room, looking at books, climbing in and out of her Sawyer-sized chairs, & eating gold fish.

The 411 on Baby BOY Coats!

So at my last doctor's appointment I asked if we could do a sonogram at my 16 week appointment instead of my 20 week appointment because I knew with Sawyer he was able to tell at 17 weeks and figured there was a good chance baby #2 would show us the goods, too! He agreed and we dropped Sawyer off with Mimi & Poppy first and then headed to the doctor's office at 3pm! I had a plan all worked out because I wanted to do something creative for baby #2 since we had a gender reveal party for Sawyer with cake and all (you can see that post here).

The appointment went great and the baby was moving all around! Dr. Payne said "baby" was measuring at 17 weeks 2 days making the most up to date due date around December 23rd. Our official due date is December 27th and baby is supposed to only be about 16 weeks 5 days, but Sawyer was early (10 days!) so maybe baby #2 will be too! Heart rate was 144 which in my opinion "proves" the whole "boys have a lower heart rate" idea. Sawyer's was always 160's-170's! Dr. Payne showed us all around the baby…placenta, umbilical cord, fluid, etc. I like how he is detailed even though he is quick! We got a picture of baby looking straight at us and it was cute because he kept waving his hands as if saying "Hi Mom & Dad!" :) Dr. Payne wrote on a card I brought in an envelope and then off we went!

Straight after the appointment we took the sealed envelope to the Rickersons (a huge thanks to them for all their work in helping us pull this off! :) and they ordered our balloons and put them in the box that I had made! Meanwhile we went back to Mimi & Poppy's to pick Sawyer up for our little photo shoot at White Rock Lake!

The rest is history…and can be seen in the following photos :) It was so fun and I love doing stuff like this to build the anticipation and catch it on film! We also had it videoed! :) I thanked Casey for being a good sport and indulging me in my silly schemes, but even he agreed that it is more fun than if we had just been told in the doctor's office. The suspense was killing me, but it's definitely part of what makes it fun for us! :)
Family of 3 waiting to see if baby #2 is a he or a she!

Love her little head poking through!! heehee :)
IT'S A BOY!!!
I love that we have our first reaction on camera! :)
Okay, the balloons flew away reallllly fast because it was super windy so we put the extras that were in Charlie & Ginni's car in the box and reenacted it…my face did not show nearly enough excitement and Casey's faking face is way too excited. Kind of funny! The way you know the real from the fake is if the water is in the background - all the ones without water are reenactments.
The proof in the sky!
Big Sister running around!

A little photo shoot with the balloons :)

My MOMMY necklace from Mother's Day 2012!
(notice the blue balloon…)

More Big Sister shots :) She was hot and tired…but overall a pretty good sport!

I guess she's crying because she wanted a sister ;)
(just joking, she was scared of the balloons and this one is tied to her belt loop! The whole thing was kind of traumatizing to her because when the balloons came out we started yelling and she kind of freaked…didn't think that one through all the way;)
I really love this one :)
me and my girl :) love her!
Glad I get to tell her she's my favorite baby GIRL. :)))
We are so excited about having a little boy! We are thrilled that we are going to have at least one of each gender and get to experience both sides of parenting! If all goes well, and our son is anything like Casey, he'll be holding my hand until he's in the 6th grade. ;) Haha! I look forward to Sawyer and her brother playing and being close as they'll only be 20 months apart. We are really looking forward to the next chapter of becoming a family of 4! So overjoyed! :)

Baby #2: Week 16

Week 16

Size: 4 1/2 inches long and 3 1/2 ounces

Baby Changes: Get ready for a growth spurt. In the next few weeks, your baby will double his weight and add inches to his length. Right now, he's about the size of an avocado: 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3 1/2 ounces. His legs are much more developed, his head is more erect than it has been, and his eyes have moved closer to the front of his head. His ears are close to their final position, too. The patterning of his scalp has begun, though his locks aren't recognizable yet. He's even started growing toenails. And there's a lot happening inside as well. For example, his heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, and this amount will continue to increase as your baby continues to develop.

Best Moment this Week: This was a pretty rough week with Sawyer being sick almost the entire time Casey was gone on mission trip. In addition to not feeling well she was super clingy because he was gone and also very agitated and cranky. However, an upside was one night when Sawyer got in a super good mood for a little while and danced all around the living room with me. She was cracking me up! She's definitely a joy when she's feeling well! :)

Gender: I'm still waiting to find out… :)
Movement: Been feeling the baby move some everyday especially when I sit down or lay down.

Food Craving: tomatoes, fruit, dried fruit

Sleep: been sleeping pretty well and taking several naps whenever Sawyer sleeps.

What I am looking forward to: my doctor appointment on Tuesday!! We get a sonogram and find out the gender. I am not finding out at the appointment, but instead doing a little something special and will announce it on my blog Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. :)

Pregnant Belly: My belly has gotten a big growth spurt this week and Casey even thought it looked a lot bigger in the 6 days that he was out of town. I like finally having a little pregnant belly and not just feeling fat. :)
